How could fraud like this happen?

From coast to coast and in the heartland patrons and merchants are being victimised by credit fraud.

Customer and merchants alike can stop credit fraud. Don’t become a victim. The old chestnut, “Prevention is worth a pound of cure,” is as old as the hills and particularly true.

Bank card fraud costs millions of greenbacks yearly for card issuers, merchants, and cardholders. Bank card fraud customarily results from the burglary of card numbers. Burglars are extremely creative and have less common ways too of defrauding every one of us, including ID theft.
Opening up credit accounts with another person’s identity is a developing issue.

Not all credit fraud can be stopped, but both merchants and cardholders can stop bank card fraud by taking some straightforward cares to reduce the possibility of burglary.

The U. S. Federal Trade Commission has printed the yes and no’s for cardholders, but which benefit both the cardholder and merchant :

Do, sign your cards as shortly as they arrive.

Do, keep a record of your account numbers, their expiry dates, and the telephone number and address of each company in a safe place.

Do, carry your cards separately from your wallet, in a zippered compartment, a business card holder, or another tiny pouch.

Do, keep a watch on your card in the exchange, and get it back as fast as possible.

Do, void incorrect invoices. Destroy carbons. Save bills to compare with billing statements.

Do, open bills fast and reconcile accounts monthly, just as you would your checking account.

Do, report any controversial charges fast and in writing to the card issuer.

Do, inform card firms ahead of a change in address.

Even though it is suggested that a cardholder sign their cards as fast as they arrive, more cardholders are cleverly writing “See ID” on the signature strip, instead of their signature.

Usually accepted ID will have the cardholder’s signature, should that be a worry for merchants. This minor inconvenience stops anybody else from using the card aside from the cardholder. Merchants who follow all corroboration procedures can simply avoid a chargeback situation.

Staff should be trained in the corroboration procedures set by the card associations, their processor, and their bank. It’s best practice to perform all security features with each exchange as much as possible.

Coaching workers and conducting secure transactions may seem to be costly at first ; however the price tag from fraud is way higher in the final analysis.

Do not be yet another victim.
